Joyful Sky

Artist: Yinka Ilori
Location: The Rowe building, Whitechapel
Client: Frasers Property and AHMM architects

The second of our projects in The Rowe building, a 160,000 sqft redevelopment, is the new mural commission, Joyful Sky by artist Yinka Ilori which brings vibrant colour to the building’s balcony, creating an open air gallery on the streets of Whitechapel.

“An invitation to look up”

Yinka Ilori is a multi-disciplinary artist and designer whose bold visual language draws on his British-Nigerian heritage to convey new narratives through contemporary design. Drawing on Nigerian parables and verbal traditions, Ilori touches on a multitude of themes that resonate with a global audience. Having studied in the building before it was redesigned, Yinka felt a personal connection to this space. His designs celebrate Whitechapel’s vibrant and diverse communities.

Yinka Ilori’s concept was the winning design from a lengthy open bid process which we ran on behalf of clients; Frasers Property and award-winning architects AHMM.
