YINKA ILORI: MURAL

Artist: Yinka Ilori

Building: The Rowe building, Whitechapel

Client: Alford Hall Monaghan Morris architects (AHMM)

The second of our projects in The Rowe building is a new mural commission by artist Yinka Ilori which brings vibrant colour to the building’s balcony.

“An invitation to look up”

Yinka Ilori is a multi-disciplinary artist and designer whose bold visual language draws on his British-Nigerian heritage to convey new narratives through contemporary design. Drawing on Nigerian parables and verbal traditions, Ilori touches on a multitude of themes that resonate with a global audience. Having studied in the building before it was redesigned, Yinka felt a personal connection to this space. His designs celebrate Whitechapel’s vibrant and diverse communities.

Yinka Ilori’s concept was the winning design from a lengthy open bid process which we ran on behalf of clients; award-winning architects AHMM. Work is still in progress.
