LOOP

Artist: Paul Cocksedge

Building: The Rowe building, Whitechapel

Client: Frasers Property

An innovative sculptural artwork, Loop is located within The Rowe office - designed by architects Allford Hall Monaghan Morris (AHMM) within the former London Metropolitan School of Art.

“A fluid, rhythmic piece that invites visitors to sit, rest and contemplate.”

We worked with Frasers Property and artist Paul Cocksedge to commission this permanent suspended sculpture that celebrates the expressed metalwork of the building and Whitechapel’s rich history in the textile industry. Loop takes on the natural draping properties of the fabric, and creates a rhythmic intervention, contrasting the linear forms of the building.

Artist Paul Cocksedge says: “Whitechapel’s garment and textile history dates back hundreds of years, and our installation at The Rowe pays homage to this – creating a fluid, rhythmic piece that invites visitors to sit, rest, and contemplate. The piece balances weight and structure with a visual lightness, utilising a hybrid mix of structural and decorative fabric, developed specifically for this artwork, and harking back to the area’s connections with textiles.”
