“We loved the playful form of Ben Rousseau’s sculpture, a modern reimagining of a throne that makes the viewer want to sit in it. It’s fabulous viewed both from a distance and up close” Zoë Allen
This is one of many artworks we were tasked with curating for this high-end office building which combines beautiful 200 year old architecture with modern workspaces. Transformed sympathetically, the artworks needed to complement the historic details, whilst bringing the space up to date and appealing to all users of the building.
The name “Caillou”, French for pebble, references the natural process of the rounding of pebbles by the ocean. Hand-shaped by artist and designer Ben Rousseau, and finished in a luxurious liquid metal, the form of a chair was used to reimagine a throne for the 21st century. The cast is made from composite fibre using high end bespoke car fabrication techniques, often used in the artist’s work.
